Pattern Corrections to Country Crossing
Addition: To the trim list, add 1/2 yard medium (1/2") brown rickrack for the horse's tail..
Correction: Spring green field section on page 1 should read:
1. Cut and fuse a 7” x 25 1/2” rectangle of spring green fabric to fusible fleece.
2. Trim to 6” x 24 1/2"
One thing I have learned about myself as I quilt is that if there is a mistake to be made, I will make it. As a consequence I’ve become very good at covering up and finding solutions to my problems. Here are my suggestions for getting out of this one.
If you have already cut your green fabric according to the uncorrected pattern, you will need to add a 4 1/2” x 6” piece to the 6” x 20 1/2" piece to make it long enough to fit across the bottom of the quilt. Add the additional length to the left end of the green field section. Sew the two pieces together with a 1/4" seam. Press the seam open. Sew additional rickrack to the background if necessary. When you fuse your cow appliqué to the background, carefully position one of the cow’s front legs over the seam. (It will hardly be noticeable.)
If you have followed the pattern directions and gotten all of your appliqués fused in place before you realize there is a mistake in the measurements, then I would recommend adding a 2 1/2" x 6” piece on each end of the field section. The cows and sheep will be closer together in the field and you won’t need to sew as many yo-yo crops in between. You can put these yo-yos to the outside of the animals. No one will ever know that you didn’t plan the field that way and the quilt will still look great!
